UK based subsea installation specialist Deepocean UK, recently completed installing the export cable for the first floating offshore wind farm in the Atlantic. Located off the coast of Portugal, close to Viana do Castelo, DeepOcean UK were contracted to install the 18km export cable that will transmit the power onshore once the windfarm is operational.

DeepOcean UK’s contract included the route engineering, burial risk assessment and the free-span analysis before the preferred installation and protection solution was selected to deal with the challenging metocean and seabed conditions.

As part of the works scope DeepOcean had to identify any free-spans along the cable route, as a measure for protecting the cable in these areas they utilised a combination of 2t and 4t Filter Units.

Working to DeepOceans schedule Ridgeway initially delivered 400 x 4t filter units and later supplied 250 x 2T units to deal with shallower free spans and protect the cable and DMC.

Ridgeway are very proud to be part of this milestone project in floating offshore wind.
