Applications

Kyowa Filter Unit are used to provide effective protection of threatened river and coastal areas. They can be installed as a temporary measure as in the case of flood defences, or for permanent stabilisation projects.

In addition they are used to stabilise areas where subsidence or collapse has occurred, such as embankments that have been damaged during flooding. As well as their applications in coastal management they are also widely used in marine engineering.

Technical Information

Kyowa Filter Unit are large corrosion-resistant nets manufactured from highly durable synthetic mesh, which Ridgeway can supply ready filled for delivery to your site. For more information on this and to learn about the filling process click here.

The S Type is suitable for use in marine environments - it is manufactured using a nylon double mesh and has been designed to withstand the impact of strong current flow.

It is available in 2-8 ton sizes. The porous structure of Kyowa Filter Unit also prevents the suction that can occur where solid units are employed in an area with strong currents.

The construction of textile mesh filled with small rocks allows for a smaller load compared to the use of concrete or rip-rap materials. In addition the porous structure creates a natural habitat for the regrowth of vegetation, allowing the units to blend harmoniously with their surroundings.

For temporary or emergency measures the white S Type Kyowa Filter Unit is normally used. This has resistance to ultra violet light exposure for one year. Filter Unit can be installed together with sandbags, gabions or concrete blocks to provide a level base on the underside of temporary structures such as dykes or roads.
