Kyowa Filter Unit are used to provide scour protection for sea defences such as harbour walls.

 

They are placed around the base of harbour walls, jetties and sea dykes to prevent erosion. In these situations they are often installed under concrete blocks.

Technical Information

 

Kyowa Filter Unit are large corrosion-resistant nets manufactured from highly durable synthetic mesh, which Ridgeway can supply ready filled for delivery to your site. For more information on this and to learn about the filling process click here.

 

With their flexible structure Kyowa Filter Unit can easily be installed on uneven surfaces. Installation and removal is relatively straightforward wtih the auto-release hook system, and multiple Filter Units can be installed simultaneously for large projects, using a jig.

 

Their flexible construction means that the Filter Unit cover the ground efficiently and do not give rise to the suction that could occur if using more solid materials, for example, concrete blocks. If being installed in a situation where exposure to daylight is likely, specially dyed mesh is used for resistance to ultra violet light weathering.

 

They can be utliised with concrete blocks and are often used as scour protection under such materials for sea and harbour defences.

The S Type is suitable for use in marine environments - it is manufactured using a nylon double mesh and has been designed to withstand the impact of strong current flow.

 

It is available in 2-8 ton sizes. Porous construction creates a natural habitat for small fish and other marine species. This characteristic also prevents the suction that can occur where solid units are employed in an area with strong currents. The construction of textile mesh filled with small rocks allows for a smaller load compared to the use of concrete or rip-rap materials.
